IB Diploma Programme
Grades 11 – 12

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

You want your child to achieve a school-leaving qualification that is nationally and internationally recognised and prepares the ground for the demands of university study in Germany and worldwide.

Admissions IB Diploma Programme

Our Concept

In Grades 11 and 12 our students are working towards the the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP).
The IB Diploma is recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP)

In our individual counselling sessions, we carefully ensure that the desired choice of subjects meets the criteria set by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Yet the IB DP offers so much more: It is designed to develop well-rounded, internationally-minded young learners who are prepared for the challenges of university and life beyond, both on a professional and a personal level.

Criteria set by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs

The IB Diploma Programme

  • qualifies students for university study in Germany and worldwide
  • develops critical and analytical thinking skills and the ability to reflect on progress
  • equips the students with the study skills required at university, for example essay writing skills
  • promotes personal engagement beyond the classroom
  • develops a global mindset, tolerance and openness

Learning in a uniquely academic and practice-oriented way

The connection to the adjacent accadis Hochschule contributes to the very high academic level of our IB student’s education. Lecturers from the accadis Hochschule contribute their experiences from the business world to Business Management lessons, for example.

The accadis Hochschule's local and national network, made up of companies of all sectors and sizes, offers our students a wide range of options, e.g. for a voluntary internship during the holidays or an overview of potential employers.

Subject lessons

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) has been designed with a broad education in mind.

accadis students select from six areas of study according to their preferences, to create a programme of study which consists of six subjects. They set focal points by choosing to study three of the subjects at a higher level.

Students of the current cohort have selected from the following subjects. The subject choices are reevaluated every year.

Group 1: Language and Literature

  • German A
  • English A

Group 2: Language Acquisition

  • German B
  • English B
  • Spanish B

Group 3: Individuals and Societies

  • History
  • Business Management
  • Psychology

Group 4: Experimental Sciences

  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

Group 5: Mathematics

  • Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches
  • Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Group 6: The Arts

  • Visual Arts

Instead of selecting German A or English A in Group 1, it is equally possible for students to study their home language with a professional tutor. This cooperation is supported by the school and is also accredited as a valid option by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs. The programme is called SSST - School Supported Self Taught.

In addition to the six academic subjects there are three ‘core’ subjects.

These compulsory modules are taken by all students and serve to broaden their horizons beyond the study of content knowledge.

Theory of Knowledge | TOK
How is knowledge developed? TOK is a course in practical philosophy, fostering critical thinking skills.

Creativity, Activity and Service | CAS

CAS encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community service, either on their own or as part of a group. They are required to find out about and get involved in suitable activities
that are both challenging and enjoyable.

Extended Essay | EE
The IB DP students engage in independent research.on a clearly defined topic of their choice and write an academic essay (4,000 words) on the subject.

Study Skills – Off to lecture halls worldwide

We are already considering today what our students of all ages require to master the next stage of their lives.

“one step ahead“ is our motto because anyone who wants to study needs more than subject knowledge.

At accadis your child will develop the skills necessary for higher education. In the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme of the accadis ISB Secondary School, students undertake an ambitious pre-university course programme that emphasises curricular links and independent academic work.

Thanks to the accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg and its intensive partnerships with numerous universities worldwide, we know which skills your child will need to study successfully in Germany or abroad after leaving school.

The more than 500 university students are the focus of the daily work of lecturers, professors and administrative staff. Extensive network for contacts in the world of business

The network of the accadis Hochschule opens up numerous contacts for our students, such as to company representatives and to our more than 5,000 alumni, who work in companies of all sizes and industries worldwide. This is particularly exciting for Secondary School students, for example, to find an internship or to enter into a dialogue about career opportunities after completing the IB Diploma Programme or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Of course, we also offer our students' parents the opportunity to use our network for professional development or further education.

Intergenerational learning

We are particularly proud of the fact that our network is growing from within itself and demonstrates the cycle of our holistic educational concept. By now, children of alumni of the accadis Hochschule and accadis ISB are also learning at the accadis International School. There is no better way to achieve our goal of being an educational provider in all phases of life.
