IGCSE
International General Certificate of Secondary Education
We attach great importance to all our students achieving the Mittlerer Schulabschluss as a formal qualification at the end of Grade 10, although almost all our students aspire to continue their schooling in the International Baccalaureate Diploma and to attend university afterwards.
With the Mittlere Schulabschluss, many educational paths are already open to the students, e.g. vocational training, which either leads directly to the desired profession or, in the very flexible German education system, to opportunities for further education at university level.
Our students prove their eligibility for the Mittlerer Schulabschluss by passing Cambridge IGCSE-Examinations IGCSE is an abbreviation of ‘International General Certificate of Secondary Education’ and it is a globally recognised programme, designed and administered by Cambridge International Education.
To qualify, the Hessische Kultusministerium specifies the following five subjects::
- German (as a first or additional language)
- English
- International Mathematics
- Combined Sciences
- History
Of course, lessons and regular assessments in all other subjects of the accadis curriculum continue as before:
- Ethics
- Music
- Art
- Physical Education
- Spanish
Many of our Grade 10 students also choose to sit the Spanish IGCSE examinations as an expression of their enthusiasm for this foreign language and to show evidence of the knowledge they have acquired over the years.
Our students also value the IGCSEs as preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at accadis ISB. In both programmes, the learning phase extends over two school years and the examinations are set and marked by external, independent boards at the end of the two years.
