As part of their final exams in Visual Arts, our IB students Chantal Knitterscheidt, Sofia Münch Gallardo, Vincent Eichler and Dacre Ponsford created impressive artworks, which they presented during an exhibition on 8 March 2019 at accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg. Digital installations, acrylic paintings and multimedia collages attracted many visitors and symbolized a two year art journey.
More than painting pictures
The four students have chosen Visual Arts as one of their IB subjects. The subject and its final examination testify diversity. "The subject is very demanding and goes far beyond 'painting'," says Visual Arts teacher Stalina Arnold. During the search for leitmotifs for their works, the students dealt intensively with art and society. Dacre Ponsford gave his works the theme "Beyond the Visible", while Sofia Münch Gallardo opted for "Inside Out". Chantal Knitterscheidt focused in her works on "Alienation" and Vincent Eicher dealt with the theme "Roots".
Digital art work
The theoretical part played also an important role during the course. The students discussed art epochs and techniques and tested them in practice. Digital and multimedia techniques are becoming more and more important. "Digital change doesn't stop at Arts either," says Gerda Meinl-Kexel, Managing Partner of the bilingual school in Ober-Eschbach. "We are delighted when our students use the demanding IB curriculum to think outside the box and bring their art to the next level. The four students are particularly grateful to their Visual Arts teacher Stalina Arnold, who has always supported them and shown them new ways of working.
