One week earlier than the state schools, accadis International School Bad Homburg started the new school year yesterday and welcomed around 120 new students. The school community is looking forward to two new and special educational provisions: The opening of the German speaking accadis Kindertagesstätte SÜDCAMPUS as well as the after-school care for students from the Grundschule Eschbachtal.
Four First Day of School Ceremonies on two days
On Friday, 25 August, all new Primary Class and Grade 1 students were welcomed with a first day of school celebration. In the presence of parents and friends, they received their school cones and were warmly welcomed by their new class teachers. "Every year I am amazed about all the colorful school cones that have been lovingly designed and filled. It's a really beautiful tradition and a lovely memory of such a special day," said Head of School Janina Sparks who spoke to the young children and their parents at the ceremony.
The new Grade 5 students were also welcomed in a festive manner on their first day in Secondary School on Monday, 28 August. For the first time ever the welcome ceremony was held in the event location in the new school building ONEaccadis. The students are now starting their educational journey towards the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in a state-of-the-art digital learning environment. In her speech, Head of School Janina Sparks proudly mentioned the outstanding results of this year's graduating class. "The graduates achieved an average of 37 out of a possible 45 points. The global average is currently just under 32 points. It shows our teaching quality and we look forward to guiding many more students on the path to the IB-Diploma."
New day-care center and school childcare for neighboring Elementary School
On Thursday, 31 August, the accadis Kindertagesstätte SÜDCAMPUS (aKS) will open its doors. This municipal facility will be operated by the accadis International School Bad Homburg gGmbH, following the application to tender at the end of 2022. The concept focusing on sports, exercise and health convinced the decision-makers of the city of Bad Homburg. The new premises at SÜDCAMPUS are designed for up to 111 children - three crèche and three kindergarten groups with a maximum of 12 and 25 children per group, respectively.
To coincide with the start of school in Hesse on 4 September, accadis ISB will start to provide after-school care for up to 30 children from the Grundschule Eschbachtal. Thanks to the move of the accadis Secondary School into the new school building, space has become available that is now put to good use for the children of the local Elementary School, which lacks space for the care of students after the end of the school day.
International teachers with experience from all over the world
As the number of students continues to grow, so does the international teaching staff at accadis ISB. Teachers from countries such as Germany, Austria, the US, Canada, Ireland, Great Britain and South Africa contribute their experiences to the school. All teachers and assistants meet for an introduction week each year before the official school start to welcome new colleagues and to prepare for the coming school year.
Unique in Germany
accadis ISB is part of the accadis Bildung Group, which also includes the accadis Hochschule (University of Applied Sciences). Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Management and Education as well as doctoral programs are offered. Thus, accadis Bildung offers a unique, family-run educational experience from Preschool via Elementary and Secondary Schools to university degree programs and doctoral studies. With the aKS opening, these services are now being extended by a creche to care for children from one year of age.
