Successful Literacy Month

firstgraders read

Author readings, reading competitions, reading in pyjamas, a book fair – the program of this year’s Literacy Monthshowed our students all literature and reading facets. On Friday, 29 March 2019 the students of our bilingual Elementary and Secondary School looked back on four eventful literature weeks.

Popular tradition

This year’s theme “Read on accadis” once again inspired our students to read. Every year they look forward to this lovely tradition. In addition, parents whose children no longer study at accadis ISB, keep telling us that they miss the literacy month at their new school.

From Pippi Longstocking to Major Mustard

Many more activities entertained our students in the third week of Literacy Month. During an Astrid Lindgren presentation by teacher Cornelia Enste, they immersed themselves in the colorful world of Pippi Longstocking. Major Mustard made the Elementary School students laugh. As one of the leading British solo puppeteers and storytellers, he inspired them with puppet shows and singing in the accadis ISB music room.

Reading in the world’s languages

New on this year’s“Literacy Month” agenda was “MULINGUA”. The accadis ISB students listened eagerly to stories, which parents read in their own language. With currently more than 47 nationalities represented at accadis ISB, the list of languages was a long one:

  • Croatian
  • Italian
  • Tamil
  • Russian
  • English
  • German
  • Hungarian
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Korean
  • Chinese
  • Russian
  • Dutch
  • Turkish

Exciting author reading

In Secondary School author Sabine Kranz introduced her works to the accadis ISB students and read to them from her fantasy novel "The Dream Workers: The Secret of Humanistica". Afterwards, the students talked to the author about her work and her professional everyday life and asked numerous questions about becoming an author.

Four weeks with books, books, books

closing ceremony literacy month

During the Closing Ceremony, we looked back on an eventful Literacy Month with numerous extraordinary activities. In order to encourage our students to continue reading, all of them received a sticker with the inscription “Read on accadis” at the end of the ceremony. A warm-hearted thank you to all who make the Literacy Month something special every year!
