Today's interview: The Chetty Family with Mecayla and Kyle. Mecayla successfully completed the International Baccalaureate at accadis ISB in 2023 – she joined the school in August 2020. Kyle has also been with us since 2020 and is currently in Grade 10.
What made you decide to enroll your children at accadis ISB?
When we left South Africa and moved to Germany, finding a school that aligned with our children’s previous educational experience was a priority. We were looking for an institution that provided a safe and stimulating learning environment, high-quality international education, and a strong focus on academic excellence and personal development.

The small class sizes and personalized approach to learning were particularly appealing, ensuring that both Mecayla and Kyle received the individualized support and guidance needed to flourish in a new academic setting.
How did you experience the initial consulting and admissions process?
From the very beginning, the admissions and onboarding process was seamless. The staff was warm, approachable, and highly responsive, guiding us effortlessly through each step. We always had access to the necessary information, which made the process stress-free.
One aspect that stood out was how accommodating and supportive the faculty was in addressing the differences in curriculum and language skills. They demonstrated great patience and took the time to understand Mecayla’s and Kyle’s individual needs and expectations. Their dedication truly made the transition much smoother.
How did you and your children experience the first few months at accadis ISB?
As expected, the transition posed challenges for our children. Leaving South Africa meant adapting to a new culture, unfamiliar language, and an entirely different school system. However, the teachers at accadis ISB have an evident passion for their work - and even more so, a deep commitment to their students. This is reflected not only in their teaching but also in their genuine and caring interactions with the children.
With the encouragement and guidance of their teachers and new friends, Mecayla and Kyle gradually settled into life at accadis ISB. The school community was incredibly welcoming - not just for our children but for us as parents as well. The emphasis on both student well-being and academic success was clear from the beginning, making the adjustment period a reassuring and positive experience overall.
What makes accadis ISB Secondary School different from other schools, and what do you think makes it special?
accadis ISB stands out for a variety of reasons; the faculty and student body boasts cultural diversity, representing various nationalities and cultures. accadis ISB demonstrates a strong sense of community. The school fosters an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where students, teachers, and parents are all actively engaged. The international mindset, innovative teaching methods, and personalized approach to education truly set this institution apart from other schools. Smaller classes, with individual attention, allow for tailored instructions to meet the needs of each student. The bilingual burriculum is the most important aspect for me, as this allows the kids to integrate into society quicker.
How would you describe the atmosphere and community at accadis ISB?
The atmosphere at accadis ISB is both dynamic and welcoming. The school provides an enriching learning environment that supports children at every stage of their development. The faculty members are warm, approachable, and highly collaborative, creating a strong sense of belonging among students, teachers, and families.
The school places great emphasis on respect, diversity, and teamwork, creating an environment where students feel safe and encouraged to express themselves individually.
Which event or experience did you and your children enjoy the most so far?
There have been many memorable events at the school, but one of the biggest highlights for our family was Mecayla’s graduation in 2023. It was truly inspiring to see students from different backgrounds celebrating this important milestone together.
Another standout event is the Summer Festival, which is always an incredible experience. Having parents actively involved makes it even more special, deepening our connection with the school community.
How do your children experience the lessons at accadis ISB and the support provided by the teachers?
The school provides a structured yet nurturing learning environment. The teachers are highly engaged and maintain a strong presence in all aspects of the students’ academic journey. Managing young students can be demanding, but the hands-on and proactive approach at accadis ISB ensures that each child receives the necessary guidance and support.
We also appreciate the continuous and constructive feedback we receive - not only highlighting achievements but also identifying areas for growth. This open communication allows us to actively support our children’s education in a meaningful way.
How has the school contributed to your children’s personal development so far?
Beyond academics, accadis ISB has played a significant role in developing our children's confidence, independence, and social skills. Through group projects, leadership opportunities, and extracurricular activities, they have learned valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication.
The school's emphasis on character development and global citizenship has provided them with a strong foundation for future success, ensuring they grow into well-rounded, responsible individuals who are ready to embrace new challenges.
