On March 14, 2025, Sienna and Lilou, two talented Grade 12 students, showcased their impressive artworks at the accadium of accadis International School Bad Homburg. The exhibition is an essential part of their final assessment in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) Visual Arts course.
Personal Themes – Profound Expressions
The exhibition brought together two artistic perspectives, each exploring fundamental and universal aspects of human existence. While Lilou’s series, In Her Element, delves into the complexities of womanhood, Sienna’s collection, Naturally Interwoven, focuses on the profound connection between humans and nature.
Lilou’s works take the audience on a journey through the evolving stages of girlhood and womanhood. She captures the transition from childhood innocence and curiosity—where dreams are nurtured and friendships serve as the foundation of social life—to the multifaceted realities of adulthood. Her pieces reflect personal aspirations, societal expectations, and the challenges of balancing multiple roles. Themes of self-discovery, resilience, and empowerment emerge throughout her collection. In works like The Touch of a Woman, Roots of Resilience, and Veiled Beauty, she challenges conventional narratives of femininity while celebrating its diversity and strength. Her art invites viewers to reflect on the beauty and struggles of womanhood, emphasizing that each individual’s experience contributes to a broader and collective story.
Sienna’s collection, Naturally Interwoven, is a tribute to the deep and intrinsic connection between humans and the natural world. She explores how nature is not only a physical space but also an emotional sanctuary and a source of inspiration. Whether it is the gentle rustling of leaves, the vibrant hues of a sunset, or the rhythmic crashing of ocean waves, these elements remind us of the interconnectedness of all living things. Her pieces, such as Ruins Rewritten, Pure Waters, and Eternal Connections, encourage mindfulness and a heightened awareness of our responsibility toward nature. Through a blend of abstract and figurative elements, Sienna’s art highlights the continuous dialogue between human existence and the environment. Her work serves as an invitation to pause, appreciate the natural world, and explore the harmony between the outer landscape and our inner selves.
IB Visual Arts curriculum goes beyond painting
“The IB Visual Arts Exhibition is always a special event. It’s incredible to see how our students develop their artistic voice over two years,” says Stalina Arnold, Art Teacher and Head of the Art Department at accadis ISB. The IB Visual Arts curriculum goes beyond painting; it includes artistic identity, historical and cultural influences, and the strategic use of media to communicate ideas.
An Afternoon of Inspiration
The exhibition attracted numerous visitors - including former students of accadis ISB - who engaged with the thought-provoking works. Guests had the opportunity to interact with the young artists and gain insight into their techniques and inspirations.
Through their exhibition, Sienna and Lilou demonstrate that art is more than just visual representation—it is a powerful medium for personal expression and societal reflection. Congratulations!
