Parallel to the start of the school year accadis ISB shone in bright new
colours. The artists Christian-Maria Knecht and Justus Becker created graffiti
artwork on the external facade of the accadis ISB building. Their work provides
a special atmosphere on the school grounds. The yellow walls of the accadis ISB
building are now decorated with a ribbon in transparent rainbow colours.
Christian-Maria Knecht designed the artwork which Justus Becker sprayed
free-handed in just eight days without the use of masking tape. He used graffiti
spray on the walls provided by the school.
Many colours,
numerous nationalities
“For me the colourful ribbon reflects our versatile school community,”
says Dr. Christoph Kexel, Managing Partner of the bilingual school. “To me the
colours symbolize our students’ 37 nations and cultures. The ribbon also makes
the facets of the accadis education visible.” On the accadis ISB school grounds
we have a Preschool, an Elementary School as well as a Secondary School.
“Together with the academic programs of the neighbouring accadis Hochschule,
the accadis academic program connects all stages of school education,” says Dr.
Christoph Kexel. He also sees an artistic value in the artwork. “Graffiti is much
more than illegal scribbling on trains or walls. It is an art form which provides
atmosphere and symbolism.”
A building
with visible dynamism
Justus Becker used about 300 Graffiti spray cans in order to create the
ribbon which winds across about 350 square meters. “We wanted to design an
artwork with a special dynamism,” says the artist. “Thus we can eliminate the
static effect of the building.” Simultaneously the ribbon underlines the size
of the building. “From the first digital draft on we put the ribbon across the
whole building instead of using just one wall. This allowed us to create a
special dimension.”
