693 440 – that is the number of reading-aloud campaigns during the nationwide Reading Aloud Day on 15 November 2019 which better acquainted many students in Germany's schools with reading and listening. Also in the accadis ISB classrooms the students eagerly listened while their teachers read aloud. Books were read by the Head of School, Janina Sparks, Academic Deputy, Head Nils Müller, Secondary School Coordinator, Dr. Stefan Wolkenfeld and Administrative Deputy Head, Dr. Nicole Pfeiffer.
Reading, Sport and Exercise
The motto of the Reading Aloud Day this year was "Sport and Exercise". The students learned that both have more to do with each other than it seems. For example, a short break to romp around during a reading lesson increases concentration. Readings on sports topics are especially much fun in "athletic" places such as stadiums.
You can read everywhere
Since 2004, adults have been using the nationwide Reading Aloud Day to make the creative world of reading more palatable to children. DIE ZEIT, the Stiftung Lesen and the Deutsche Bahn Stiftung had launched the Reading Aloud Day. In addition to schools and preschools, libraries and bookstores also participate. Many reading aloud campaigns attract readers and listeners to unusual places such as museums, planetariums, zoos and even pedestrian zones. Thus the children learn that reading is not limited to the living or children's room at home, but is possible everywhere.
